I am finding some posts are not saving the catagory, even when they are selected, when clicking save.
This is weird, going to find out if this is a result of too many tags being used or some other issue

A few clients have mentioned that they do not want to have to install spyware prevention (and similar tools), because they can be quite processor and ram intensive.
So here is a quick hack to immunize against known spyware for windows XP and Windows 2003. (they keyword is known! This will not work against new spyware unless you add them in)
Here are the default locations of the HOSTS file:
| Windows XP | = | C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC |
| Windows 2K | = | C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC |
| Win 98\ME | = | C:\WINDOWS |
(1) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
(2) Backup the file called HOSTS (there is no extension)
(3) Open HOSTS with notepad
(4) Add all web addresses that you want to block
(5) Save the file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc (call the file HOSTS) with no extension
This hack will also speed up and force some web addressses to remain cached (useful for say the top 5 website you vist)
Click here to download an example that applies both techniques.
Due to the restrictions imposed by VISTA UAC (Users Access Control), this technique may not work.
Be warned, it is advised that you do update the list to keep this effective. (get the updated list 2 or 3 times a month from here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/updates.htm )
Checked the statistics again. Its official! The Protocol Solutions blog is getting twice as much traffic as the Protocol Solutions homepage!
The alexa Rank has gone from around 3.1 million to 1.5 million (remember with alexa the lower the number, the better, only 6 days ago it was 1.7 million). In Ireland we are in the top 5,000 of all websites visited (it was the top 6,000 before).
Thats a 500% increase in traffic in the last 3 months.
Today is Patch Tuesday. We hope you havent forgotten to check and test for updates for Windows!
For people who have an 085 (meteor) number, did you know you can use your normal email client to send SMS messages for free?
All you do is write a normal email but in the To: line , just format it like this 085XXXXXXX@sms.mymeteor.ie
Then hit send.
This service is free, can can be handy, as not everyone likes the mobile phone keypad.
Find Following Registry Key :
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanserver\Parameters
Add Two D-Word Entries with Value 0 :
AutoShareServer
AutoShareWks
This prevents Administrative Shares if value is 0. ( the other way around if the value is 1 )
( Note : You will need to create the above keys if they are not in that location ! )
Just to be on the safe side, I decided to see if I could lock down our Wordpress installation.
I cannot claim credit for the way to go about locking it down. I actually got this info from several websites.
Here what you need to do to make Wordpress more secure and ensure that only your IP address can login to the Admin page.
(1) Have a look at the attached template. Open it up notepad and add in your entries (subsitute the 111.222.333.444 with your WAN IP address)
www.mediafire.com/?b3amyjniwkj
All you need to do then is drop that file (ensure its called htaccess) with no extension into the WP-Admin folder.
If your IP address changes and you get locked out, do not worry, just FTP into the WP-Admin folder and change the whitelist to the new IP.
Ok, All hyperlinks are now fixed on the blog. Please report if anything is causing an issue.
